4 Ways to Find Peace Like a Yoga Teacher

Do you feel like you are always go, go, go? Jumping from one place to the next? Trying to get as much done as possible each day to keep up? This can leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and disconnected from ourselves and those around us. However, it is important to do things each day to help you stay grounded, reconnect with yourself and find peace like a yoga teacher. 

Finding your inner peace will not only help you become the best version of yourself, but will also help you succeed in the workforce by:

Unplug

Technology is at the center of all our lives. This is especially true after the pandemic when many of us had to start working virtually. Between emails, zoom calls, social media, texting, and working on our laptops, it can be hard to escape the screens. While technology can have many benefits, spending too much time on our electronics can negatively impact our overall well-being. Too much screen time can lead to eye strain, poor posture, sleep problems, social isolation, anxiety, and depression.

Here are some ways you can set boundaries around your devices and unplug to better your mental and physical health:

  • Plan times during the day when you will unplug. This can be during meal times, 30 minutes before bedtime, or when you are spending time with family or friends.
  • Turn off your notifications when you are working to help you stay focused on the task at hand.
  • Pick one day a week to disconnect from social media.
  • Make it a rule that you are not allowed to check your email after a certain time each day. This will help you maintain boundaries between your work life and personal life.

Meditation

Meditation is one of the best ways to find inner peace. It can help you cope with stress, improve your focus and concentration, stay centered, reduce anxiety, improve sleep, increase creativity, and become more self-aware. Not only will this help you in your personal life, but it will help you at work as well. 

Meditation may seem intimidating at first. You may think that in order to reap the benefits of this practice, you must sit in silence on the floor for hours at a time listening to the sound of your breath. However, there are so many different forms of meditation you could try:

  • Mindfulness Meditation: This form of meditation involves paying attention to any thoughts, feelings, or sensations in your body.
  • Movement Meditation: This allows you to connect to your body and breath on a deeper level through walking, yoga, or tai chi.
  • Mantra Meditation: This involves using a word, phrase or sound to clear the mind.
  • Visualization Meditation: This practice involves using the five senses to imagine a scene in as much detail as possible to bring you a sense of peace and relaxation.
  • Focused Meditation: This is what most people think about when they hear the word meditation. This involves concentrating on something like your breath or an object using one of your five senses.

Tiny Moments of Joy

They say laughter is the best medicine for a reason! Life can be really overwhelming at times, but making it a priority to enjoy the little things in your daily life can have monumental effects on your work, life, and longevity. Read more about the benefits of laughter here!

Here are some ways you can start finding small moments of joy throughout your day:

  • Get outside everyday and observe the beauty of nature: basking in the sun, listening to the birds chirp, or admiring the sunset are all great mood boosters.
  • Put on your favorite songs: Music is one of the best mood boosters. It may even make you want to get up and dance!
  • Savor your cup of coffee in the morning: who doesn’t love their morning cup of coffee? Even if it’s just 5 minutes, give yourself that time to sit down and enjoy your favorite drink of the day.
  • Write down 3 things you’re grateful for every morning: This will get you into the right mindset to look for positive things throughout the day! 

Mindful Eating

Do you rush out the door in the morning, grabbing a granola bar or muffin for the road? Do you work through your lunch breaks to catch up on work? 

Between work schedules and personal commitments, it can be hard to find the time to sit down to actually enjoy your meals everyday. However, practicing mindful eating can increase awareness of your hunger and fullness cues, reduce overeating, and improve ability to manage cravings.

It is okay if you do not have the freedom to eat all of your meals without distractions. Set a goal to eat at least one of your meals or snacks more mindfully and go from there. Here are some tips to help you start:

  • Eat slowly
  • Notice the texture and flavors of the food
  • Pay attention to how this food makes you feel
  • Notice how you feel when you finish eating
  • Notice how hungry or full you feel before and after the meal
